SOUND: A Solo Reuse Art Exhibition
This June and July I will be putting on a Solo Reuse Art Exhibition on the Gallery Wall at the Backstage Bar in Theater Square, in the Cultural District of Pittsburgh, PA.
Man, that's a mouthful!
There will be a total of six pieces, all using various discarded and trashed items. Three of which will use items normally thrown away from the bar itself: bottle caps, 2015 Children's Theater Festival brochures, and clear plastic cups used once, then tossed. One piece will use a trashed white freezer bag, formerly holding Totino’s pizza rolls (stolen from the trash from my mom’s house!). Another piece will use worn and broken down record sleeves from Jerry's Records in Squirrel Hill (They never toss a single record away. How cool is that?). And the final piece will use discarded/misprinted glue tubes donated to and purchased from the Pittsburgh Center for Creative Reuse.
Five pieces will utilize used plastic banner material instead of canvas. One piece will utilize used aluminum printing plates donated by Heeter Printing for a surface.
Five pieces will have a custom-built frame. Two of those frames will use discarded wood, with one frame coming from wood via Construction Junction. The other three will be virgin wood, while the sixth is stretcher bars.
Opening Night is June 3rd, 2016 at 5 pm. The exhibition will run through mid-July. The beginning of the exhibition will coincide with the Three Rivers Arts Festival. And on the 8th of July it will be an official stop on the Cultural Trust quarterly gallery/art crawl!
The bar/exhibition is open Tuesday through Saturday at 5pm till close, and on Sundays from 12pm to 6pm.
Stop by and see the exhibition. Reimagine for yourself what your trash can be!
Rethink. Reduce. Reuse. Repair. Recycle.
